Winning Appropriate Education Services for a Girl With Autism

Posted on May 18, 2018

The Problem: A 6-year-old girl diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder was not properly evaluated by the individualized education program (IEP) team at her public school. She wasn’t receiving the services in her IEP for speech-language therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and counseling.

The Results: With the help of Cuddy Law Firm, the girl’s mother was able to obtain various independent evaluations for her daughter, and the IEP team met to review the new evaluations. At the re-convening of the IEP team, the team recommended that the student be placed in a private school that could more appropriately address her needs. The hearing officer ordered compensatory services to address the failure of the school district to provide the services mandated by the Student’s IEP.
